The Jamaica blueprint
Perfect Nations™ · Letters to the NationsJamaica

Dear Jamaica,

Black, green and gold, under the motto Out of Many, One People. When Hurricane Melissa struck, your catastrophe bond paid out in full within weeks, and you have already bought the next one.

Think of what you have already built. When Hurricane Melissa struck in 2025, your $150 million catastrophe bond paid out in full. In May 2026 the World Bank priced a new $200 million bond to protect you until 2030. Few nations on earth have arranged their disaster finance so well.

At home the record is just as real. Ninety-three in every hundred of you cook with clean fuel. Eighty-eight in every hundred of you drink safely managed water at home. Eighty-six in every hundred of your young people complete lower-secondary school.

The work ahead is plain, and it is worth saying plainly. Fifty-six in every hundred of you cannot always count on enough good food. Only seventy-four in every hundred of you have a safely managed toilet at home. Essential health care scores 74 out of 100 on the World Health Organization index. Food sets your Coverage today, at 44.2 out of 100, with shelter and health care close behind. Each of them is within your reach.

Now imagine that same resolve turned toward every home in the country. Picture Perfect Jamaica: a morning when every family cooks with clean fuel and sits down to a full table; when every tap runs clean and every home has a safe toilet; when every child walks to a school where a teacher is waiting, and reads with ease by the age of ten; when every mother lives within reach of a clinic with the lights on, and every young person finds work that pays. And no Jamaican falls below a decent life, because the nation has decided that none will.

None of this needs a miracle. It needs what you already own: your mountains, your sea, your music, your athletes, your tourism and a disaster finance system the world now studies. They are assets no balance sheet counts, and together they can carry every Jamaican to food, water, shelter, energy, education, health and a livelihood.

“When the storm came, the money was already there. Now make a full table just as certain in every Jamaican home.”

So this is an invitation. Bring your vision, your story and your solutions to the Perfect Jamaica Design Studio, and join the Co-designers who are already imagining what comes next. Perfect Jamaica will not be designed for you. It will be designed by you.

Yours in design,

Preeti Sinha
