Dear Indonesia,
Red over white, the Sang Saka Merah-Putih, under the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika: Unity in Diversity. You hold half your land in forest, and you were among the first nations to sell a green sukuk to the world.
Think of what you have already built. In June 2025 the World Bank approved a $2.1 billion package: $1.5 billion for financial-sector and renewable-energy reforms and about $628 million to bring electricity to 3.5 million people. In September 2025 it added $500 million to modernise the grid that serves Java, Madura and Bali.
At home the record is just as real. Ninety-six in every hundred of you can always count on enough good food. Ninety in every hundred of you cook with clean fuel. Eighty-eight in every hundred of you have a safely managed toilet at home.
The work ahead is plain, and it is worth saying plainly. Only thirty in every hundred of you drink safely managed water at home. Sixty-four in every hundred of you lived below $8.30 a day at the last count, in 2025. At the last count, in 2015, fifty-three in every hundred of your children reached the end of primary school unable to read a simple text. Water sets your Coverage today, at 30.5 out of 100, with income and reading close behind. Each of them is within your reach.
Now imagine that same resolve turned toward every home in the country. Picture Perfect Indonesia: a morning when every family cooks with clean fuel and sits down to a full table; when every tap runs clean and every home has a safe toilet; when every child walks to a school where a teacher is waiting, and reads with ease by the age of ten; when every mother lives within reach of a clinic with the lights on, and every young person finds work that pays. And no Indonesian falls below a decent life, because the nation has decided that none will.
None of this needs a miracle. It needs what you already own: your forests, your seas, your nickel, your volcanic soils, a world-class sovereign sukuk market and the fourth-largest population on earth. They are assets no balance sheet counts, and together they can carry every Indonesian to food, water, shelter, energy, education, health and a livelihood.
“Unity in diversity built a nation of seventeen thousand islands. Now let it bring safe water to every one of them.”
So this is an invitation. Bring your vision, your story and your solutions to the Perfect Indonesia Design Studio, and join the Co-designers who are already imagining what comes next. Perfect Indonesia will not be designed for you. It will be designed by you.
Yours in design,
