Dear Nigeria,

Green, white and green: the green for your land and the white for peace, under a motto that asks for Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress. You are the most populous nation in Africa, and the world already competes to lend to you.

“The world lent you $2.35 billion in a single week. Now let a full table in every home be the return.”

Sovereign Assets

Five assets no balance sheet counts.

Each is owned today, earns today, and can lift Nigeria closer to Perfect Capita.

  • 01

    The People

    237.5mCitizens, 2025

64 in every hundred live in towns and cities; the rest live on the land they farm and fish.

  • 02

    The Land

77.1%Of land in farms and pasture

The land that feeds the nation, and the first place a citizen dividend can be earned.

  • 03

    The Forest

    18.9%Of land under forest

Standing forest holds the water, soil and carbon that the world will pay to keep.

  • 04

    The Water

990 m³Renewable fresh water per person

Below the scarcity line of 1,000 cubic metres: every drop must be stored, treated and reused.

  • 05

    The Power

    22%Of energy from renewables, 2021

Sun, wind, water and biomass already carry part of the load; the rest is the opportunity.

What each asset is worth, and how far it can carry Nigeria toward Perfect Capita, is the question our research and our guests take up below.

The Nigeria wheel: held at 23.5 by food

The Living LineThe poverty line measures income. The Living Line measures a life: food, water, shelter, energy, education, health and livelihood. Perfect Capita is the yearly cost, per person, of lifting everyone above the Living Line in all seven basic living standards. Coverage scores each standard strictly out of 100, and a nation is held at its weakest: Nigeria at 23.5, by food, with energy at 28 and water at 29.9 next.

Perfect Nations estimate, to be confirmed with Nigeria. Figures marked dated rest on surveys more than five years old; lenient measures are marked as such. The strict measures

Strict measures. Food: share not moderately or severely food insecure (FAO). Water: safely managed drinking water where measured; where it is not, basic water, marked as such. Shelter: the lower of safely managed sanitation and the share outside urban slums. Energy: the lower of electricity per person against 1,000 kWh and clean cooking. Education: the lower of children reading by the end of primary school and lower-secondary completion. Health: WHO service coverage index. Livelihood: share above the stricter of the national poverty line and the World Bank line for the nation’s income group. Each figure links to its source.
