Story GUIDELINES

Participate in a global journey of the visionary stories for 195 nations

Story Guidelines for Perfect Nations

Welcome to Perfect Nations! We’re on a mission to inspire and celebrate the potential of the world’s 195 nations, and we need your stories to make this vision come alive. We’re building a collection of stories that imagine the best potential of every country in the world while recognizing its current day challenges. We want to build a global tapestry of stories that celebrate the resilience, beauty, and untapped assets of the all nations. Whether you’ve experienced the magic of a place firsthand or are inspired to imagine its future, we invite you to share your story. Each story is a chance to showcase what makes a nation extraordinary—its beauty, culture, people, and possibilities.

Real or Fiction: Our contributors highlight real-life heroes, communities, and initiatives—or envision what could be, weaving hopeful possibilities into vivid narratives. Whichever approach you choose, real or fiction, your story should inspire readers to see the extraordinary potential of every nation. We will publish two books on each Perfect Nations. One, a compilation of real stories and second, a compilation of the fictional stories.

What We’re Looking For

We accept two types of stories: Real Stories and Fictional Stories inspired by reality. Both can highlight the nation’s potential or challenges while painting a rich, vivid picture for readers.

Real Stories: balancing Realism with Hope

Share true accounts of people, places, or initiatives deeply reflective of a nation. We understand that every nation’s journey includes challenges. If your story touches on hardships or struggles, we encourage you to explore how people are rising above them. Share the resilience, creativity, or determination that is driving progress and shaping a brighter future. Include sensory details, personal reflections, and cultural elements to make your story come alive. If you can, highlight resilience, ingenuity, and hope, even in the face of challenges.

While it’s okay to write about sad or difficult moments, focus on solutions, moments of joy, and the potential for transformation. Whether it’s a farmer reviving their land after a drought or a teacher inspiring students in a war-torn village, we hope your story can leave readers feeling inspired. The key is to leave readers feeling hopeful while nodding along to the little truths that only someone who’s been there (or dreamed of going) would know.

Fictionalized Stories: Imagining deeply cultural perfect nations

  • The nation’s potential: Paint a vivid picture of what a country could achieve by tapping into its unique strengths—its people, culture, natural beauty, or innovative spirit.
  • Delightful details: Capture the sights, sounds, smells, and quirks that make a place unforgettable. Whether it’s the aroma of street food or the clamor of a chaotic market, let your words make readers feel they’re there.
  • Human stories: Highlight the people—dreamers, doers, and accidental heroes—who bring a nation’s potential to life. Perhaps it’s the baker who invents a new twist on a traditional bread or a farmer who turns apricot pits into biodegradable cups.
  • A touch of humor: Every nation has its lovable idiosyncrasies. Share moments that make readers smile, whether it’s navigating traffic in Kabul or marveling at the tenacity of street cats in Istanbul.

Story Requirements

  1. Length: Stories should be between 600 and 1,200 words—enough to dive deep without losing readers in a tangle of details.
  2. Perspective: Write as if you’re sharing your story over a cup of tea with an old friend. Use the first person or third person to make it personal and relatable.
  3. Tone: Heartfelt, warm, witty, and vivid. Imagine the reader to be wandering the streets of your chosen nation, sharing the sorrows of the current day challenges or marveling at its beauty or chuckling over the quirks.
  4. Authenticity: Even if you’re imagining the future, keep it grounded in the present. Describe what’s real today while dreaming big for tomorrow.
  5. Language: Clear, conversational, and accessible. Avoid heavy jargon; this isn’t a thesis—it’s an adventure!

Examples of Great Stories

  1. A Day in the Life: Picture yourself wandering a bazaar in Morocco, where the vendor refuses to let you leave without tasting every type of olive. Now imagine those olives funding a sustainable farming cooperative that feeds the region.
  2. Stories of resilience: Overcoming adversity, rebuilding communities, or innovating under pressure.
  3. Quirks and Charm: Write about the impossibility of crossing a street in Hanoi without becoming an expert in human traffic flow. Then dream about Hanoi as a hub for green urban design.
  4. Ordinary Heroes: Share the story of a rural teacher in Ecuador whose students are now using solar-powered tablets to study the Amazon’s ecosystem.
  5. Imagining the Future: Envision Afghanistan’s valleys transformed into solar-powered farms, supplying saffron and almonds to the world while preserving its cultural heritage.

What We’re NOT Looking For

Let’s keep the stories positive and constructive:

  • Overly negative stories: While challenges are part of every nation’s journey, we want stories to end with hope and optimism.
  • Political rants: Keep the focus on people and progress, not divisive opinions.
  • No divisive commentary: Skip the politics—focus on what brings people together.
  • No pessimism: Challenges can be acknowledged, but the emphasis should remain on hope and solutions.
  • No clichés: Move beyond generic descriptions. Instead of “breathtaking views,” describe how the air smells of cedar and wildflowers.
  • No heavy technicalities: We’re here to dream and inspire, not write user manuals.

Formatting Guidelines

  • Title: Create a catchy, descriptive title. Such as: Couscous, Camels, and Captivating Dreams: A Journey Through Perfect Algeria
  • Tone: Real, warm, and full of sensory details.
  • Citations: If you reference specific data or real-world initiatives, provide sources or links.
  • Originality: Stories must be your own work, unpublished elsewhere. By submitting, you grant us permission to edit and publish your story.

How to Submit

  1. Submit Your Story: Prepare your story and submit it online in the tab above Submit Your Story. You can additionally attach your story in a Word document and upload it at the same place. You can upload images or videos that enhance your story. Include your name, email, and story title at the top.
  2. For further information: If you have any questions, you can contact us as team@perfectnations.org. Add a self-explanatory subject line.
  3. Author Bio: Add a short bio (50–75 words) about yourself and attach a passport-sized photo of yourself (face). Feel free to include your connection to the country or why you wrote the story.

Selection Process

  • Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis. We’ll respond within 4–6 weeks.
  • We will publish two books on each Perfect Nations. One a compilation of real stories and a second book as a compilation of the fictional stories.
  • Selected stories will be published on Perfect Nations, and contributors will be credited. We may edit stories for clarity, length, and tone while preserving your voice.
  • Authors whose stories are selected will receive our eternal gratitude—and the knowledge that you’ve inspired readers worldwide.
