# Dear Fiji

# Dear Fiji,

The light blue of the Pacific, with your shield of sugar cane, coconut, bananas 
and the dove of peace. Almost every one of your young people completes lower-secondary
school, and you sold the Pacific’s first sovereign blue bond.

Think of what you have already built. In November 2023 you offered the first sovereign
blue bond in the Pacific, in three- and fifteen-year tranches, to fund coastal protection,
aquaculture and clean towns. In January 2025 the World Bank approved $199.6 million
to make four major bridges on Viti Levu withstand storms.

At home the record is just as real. Ninety-seven in every hundred of your young 
people complete lower-secondary school. Seventy-one in every hundred of you can 
always count on enough good food. Essential health care scores 69 out of 100 on 
the World Health Organization index.

The work ahead is plain, and it is worth saying plainly. Sixty-one in every hundred
of you lived below $8.30 a day at the last count, in 2019. Only forty-two in every
hundred of you drink safely managed water at home. Only forty-eight in every hundred
of you have a safely managed toilet at home. Income sets your Coverage today, at
38.7 out of 100, with water and shelter close behind. Each of them is within your
reach.

Now imagine that same resolve turned toward every home in the country. Picture Perfect
Fiji: a morning when every family cooks with clean fuel and sits down to a full 
table; when every tap runs clean and every home has a safe toilet; when every child
walks to a school where a teacher is waiting, and reads with ease by the age of 
ten; when every mother lives within reach of a clinic with the lights on, and every
young person finds work that pays. And no Fijian falls below a decent life, because
the nation has decided that none will.

None of this needs a miracle. It needs what you already own: your ocean, your reefs,
your forests, your tourism and a people who already finish school. They are assets
no balance sheet counts, and together they can carry every Fijian to food, water,
shelter, energy, education, health and a livelihood.

> “You sold the Pacific its first blue bond. Now let the ocean’s wealth carry every
> Fijian family to work that pays.”

So this is an invitation. Bring your vision, your story and your solutions to the
Perfect Fiji Design Studio, and join the Co-designers who are already imagining 
what comes next. Perfect Fiji will not be designed for you. It will be designed 
by you.
